jaragon,

Check with Los Pinos. Are you looking for general fly tying or San Juan patterns?

Is there any need to join classes to learn tying? I did not get any sense behind this.

AllenReed,

I’m not sure anyone is offering a class on San Juan Flies. You can check with Los Pinos, Charlie’s, or NMT Fly Tying Round Table (http://newmexicotrout.org/).

Here are some flies I use on the San Juan:
San Juan Flasher (Deward Yocum) – Page 2 of NMT Jul-Aug 2011 Newsletter
http://newmexicotrout.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/newsletterJuly2011.pdf
Colors: Brown, Cream/Tan

Big Mac Tutorial

Colors: Iron Grey, Brown, Tan/Cream

Yong Special (Tied different than Andy Kim)

Colors: Brown, Olive, Grey, Tan
Thread: If you use C&C, make sure it is C&C All Purpose Dual Duty Plus, 37% Cotton and 63% Polyester
Note: Summer Brown was labeled as 54A, but is now labeled as 8360

Yong Special (Described by Rick Takahashi)

RS-2 (Hopper Juan)
http://vimeo.com/9924843
Colors: Dark Brown, Grey, Olive
(Foam Wing RS2 - substitute thread for the body and closed cell foam for the wing)
(Tail – substitute hackle fibers instead of Microfibbets split tail)

Midge Help (Topic on Ifly4trout)

Dry Fly: Barr's Viz-a-dun
http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/details.cfm?parentID=98
Colors: Olive, Grey

Hi-Vis Griffith’s Gnat
http://flytying123.com/hi-vis-griffiths-gnat/04/08/2010/
(Size 8 – 12 are called “Dead Chickens”)
(Try using only thread for the body on sizes 22-26, with no wing post – colors in black, grey, tan)

Let me know if you have any questions.

Vinny
